Those were the Krzyżowa-Music Symposia 2018

Cultural and contemporary history discussion as part of Krzyżowa-Music

In 2018, Robert Żurek, Chairman of the Krzyżowa Foundation, and Alexey Stadler, participant of Krzyżowa-Music, curated both symposia. One hundred years after the end of World War I., as a result of which Europe was redesigned, the Polish state was reborn.

Musicians such as Ignacy Paderewski and Mieczysław Karłowicz participated in the process. Their importance in this development will be paid tribute to in first symposium as well as by the designing of the Krzyżowa-Music programme. After a further devastating war and one century later, the newly formed Europe is once more endangered. In the second symposium the participating musicians, all of them artists acting and working across borders, will be discussing the question in the light of growing nationalism, “Can an artist nowadays still be apolitical?”

The symposiums 2018 have been kindly enabled through the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
