Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with true pleasure that, together with my German colleague, I grant my patronage to the second edition of Krzyżowa-Music: Music for Europe. I appreciate this valuable initiative as, apart from its Polish-German dimension, it also has an international character.

Describing music as a universal language that unites people across all divides is repeated so often that it may sound banal. However, it is difficult to escape a similar reflection on the essence of music, particularly when thinking of the project whose name is a reference to a symbolic place in Polish-German history.

Message from Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel for the project Krzyżowa Music: Music for Europe


Krzyżowa is much more than a geographical location where people make music together. Krzyżowa epitomises an exemplary mindset which works in the European spirit to counter violence and terror and promote reconciliation and humanity. That is why I so much welcome the fact that the musical programme also pays tribute to outlawed and in part forgotten musicians. Seminars focusing on "Musicians in Exile" and "Musicians in the Resistance" bring you closer to the topic at a different, more discursive level. It is the music and its ability to bring people together across borders that is at the very heart of Krzyżowa Music.
